A visit to a Fair/Baisakhi Fair
India is a land of fairs and festivals. At every turn of weather there is some fair or festival. Baisakhi holds a great importance for the farmers of Punjab because they expect a bumper wheat crop on this occasion. They celeberate this festival with song and dance. In Mukatsar a big Baisakhi fair is held every year on 13th April. It is held in open ground near and District courts complex. Preparations for the fair begin many days advance. The open ground had been given a face-lift. Small shopkeepers had put their tents all around the site of the fair. The dhol beats called the fair lovers from a distance. Long lines of persons from different directions were going to see the fair early in the morning. The people were putting on clothes of different colours. Thus it appeared as if the rainbows were moving on the earth. By noon the fair was in full swing. Children were enjoying sweetmeats toys and merry go-rounds. There were wrestlers, jugglers, snake charmers and balloon sellers and bhangra dancers. I stayed at the fair for more than five hours. I really enjoyed it to my fill.
