A Blood Donation Camp
Our school organized a blood donation camp in December. A red Cross van carrying medical saff and equipments reached on the fixed day. The Punjab National Bank sponsored the expenses on refreshment. So the camp was jointly inaugurred by our Principal and the bank manager. Boys and girls came in large numbers to donate blood. Many members of the staff also stood in the crowd of donors. After all, it was a noble cause and everybody wanted to put in his share. Besides, it is common knowledge now that blood donation is totally harmless. On the other hand, it saves many precious lives. The medical team could handle only three donors at a time. But the beds were never empty. It took about three to four minutes per donor. When my turn came, I was a bit fearful. But the whole thing was absolutely painless. I kept smiling at my friends standing around. After donating blood each donor was given a glass of milk, an egg and fruit. Everybody was in high spirits. None complained of weakness. Each one of the donors got a certificate and a badge. The camp continued from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two hundred units of blood were collected. It was obviously a grand success. A full column report of this camp appeared in the next day's issue of The Tribune.
