A Railway Accident
I was travelling from Ferozepur to Delhi in the Punjab Mail last Tuesday. As the train crossed Bathinda, I felt some jerks. There was much noise in the compartment. The lady passengers started screaming. The children started weeping. Luckily, the train came to a stand still. I came out of the compartment and saw that first two bogies had derailed. Our compartment was eighth from the engine and fortunately it was on the rail. Some passengers in my compartment had received minor injuries. Then I went towards the compartments which were derailed. The compartments had turned so badly that they were upside down. By this time other passengers from other bogies also came. They started helping the injured passangers come out of the derailed bógies. The driver was also injured. By this time people from nearby villages also came to the rescue of the injured passengers. Luckily, a passenger had a mobile phone. He informed the Bhatinda Railway Station Master about the derailment. In no time a relief train with a team of doctors arrived at the scene of accident. Luckily, there were no deaths. The injured were taken in the relief to the Civil Hospital at Bhatinda. The number of casualties was about 50. I felt so nervous that I cancelled my journey and came back to Ferozepur by a bus.
